Abscessed chest is clinically divided into acute and chronic, usually acute abscess is relatively good treatment, chronic abscess is relatively difficult to treat.
Pyothorax can be categorized into acute pyothorax and chronic pyothorax according to the duration of the disease. Acute pyothorax is usually treated with active antibiotics (e.g. levofloxacin, cephalosporin, aminopenicillin, etc.) and drainage of pus, followed by symptomatic nutritional support (albumin, fat milk injection, compound amino acid injection, etc.), and symptoms such as high fever, cough and sputum will be gradually reduced, and the prognosis is generally good. Patients with acute pyothorax can usually be cured after the above treatment.
However, patients with chronic pyothorax may not be effective enough to achieve closure of the abscess cavity after active antibiotic treatment, drainage of pus and symptomatic treatment, and then surgical treatments such as pleurodesis, pleuropneumonectomy, or thoracoplasty may be needed.
Patients diagnosed with pyothorax should actively cooperate with doctors for treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
