Why does progesterone drop

The common reasons for the decrease of progesterone in a woman’s body after pregnancy include luteal insufficiency, embryo abnormality, ectopic pregnancy, and diseases of other endocrine organs.
1. Inadequate function of the corpus luteum, which is unable to secrete enough progesterone, is a common cause of lower progesterone levels in pregnant women.
2. If the embryo develops abnormally after pregnancy, such as stopping development, poor development, etc., it cannot secrete sufficient amount of human chorionic gonadotropin, which reduces the stimulation of the corpus luteum, and also leads to the decrease of progesterone.
3. In the case of ectopic pregnancy, the embryo and placenta are not well developed and do not produce sufficient amount of human chorionic gonadotropin and progesterone, which will also lead to a decrease in progesterone.
4. If a woman suffers from thyroid dysfunction, adrenal gland dysfunction and other diseases, it will lead to endocrine disorders, which may affect the ovarian luteal function, resulting in a decrease in progesterone.
It should be noted that the normal physiological fluctuation of progesterone is a normal phenomenon, can not be based solely on a progesterone value to determine the embryonic development, it is recommended to consult a doctor.
