Soft tissue defects of the hand are classified as simple skin defects, defects with tendon bone exposure, and composite defects with bone defects. In case of simple skin defects, skin grafting can be used for repair. According to the thickness of the skin piece, it can be divided into edge-thickness skin piece, medium-thickness skin piece and full-thickness skin piece. If there is tendon bone exposure, flap repair is required. With the improvement of microscopic technology, the flap has evolved from the initial advancement flap random flap, to the later tipped flap, axial flap, and nowadays the penetrating flap. The flap technique has become more beautiful, smaller, and thinner the more it is done. If there is a bone defect, then a bone flap graft with bone is required.
