A close encounter with the maternity ward

Many expectant mothers who plan to have a normal delivery are unfamiliar with the delivery room, and one of the qualities of human beings is that they are often afraid of and resistant to the unknown. In order to eliminate as much tension and fear as possible, the author decided to take you to learn about the general situation of the delivery room in advance, which I believe will be helpful to our labor process. The first knowledge you need to stock up on is the three major stages of labor. In the process of natural childbirth, it goes through three stages. 1, the first stage of labor is the process of the cervix from closed to open, the baby’s head is as big as the mouth of the uterus must be opened (usually 11-12 hours for primiparous women, 6-8 hours for experienced women). 2, the second stage of labor is the opening of the uterus to the baby delivery process (transwoman fast a few minutes to complete, up to 1 hour, primigravida 2 hours to complete, labor analgesia pregnant mothers extend the time accordingly). 3, the third stage of labor is the process of delivery of the baby to the delivery of the placenta (5-15 minutes, up to thirty minutes) Knowing the three major stages of labor, the following should understand the structure of the delivery room overview, currently divided into three areas: 1, waiting room: the first stage of latency stage of labor 2, the family maternity home: the first active stage of labor and the second and third stage of labor 3, high-risk maternity home: The applicable time period is the same as the family maternity ward for pregnant mothers with high-risk factors The waiting room is a labor preparation room, a large room with eight beds. Each is equipped with monitoring equipment to monitor the pregnant mother’s blood pressure, heartbeat and fetal heart rate. The criteria for admission to the room at this stage: first-time mothers whose uterine opening is up to 2cm; menstruating mothers whose uterine opening is up to 1cm; expectant mothers who need to be induced to labor; expectant mothers who need to undergo a contraction agitation test (OCT) due to their medical condition; and so on. The family maternity ward is the most important component of the maternity ward. The maternity wards that can provide the conditions for family members to accompany the labor are all single rooms, equipped with (delivery beds, midwifery equipment, monitoring equipment, resuscitation equipment, and resuscitation medicines). In particular, it is important to mention the labor bed, which has a special structure that helps the mother to maintain the labor position and facilitates the midwife to assist the labor. Criteria for admission to the room: the uterine opening is 3cm and above. Mothers and babies who have successfully delivered will be observed for 2 hours in the Family Delivery Room to make sure that the mother and baby are safe before returning to the ward. High-risk labor and delivery rooms are for pregnant mothers with high-risk factors for delivery. The Family Maternity Ward is equipped with all the facilities available in the Family Maternity Ward. In addition, it is specially equipped with emergency vehicles, ventilators and other rescue equipment, which can be used for emergency caesarean section in case of emergency. Understanding the labor and delivery room, accompaniment is an unavoidable issue. The process of labor and delivery is hard, long, and will consume a lot of energy and physical strength. Having expectant fathers and other family members accompanying and comforting and encouraging expectant mothers throughout the process is very helpful for the smooth progress of labor. But intend to accompany the delivery of friends and relatives, physical and psychological should also be prepared, the specific requirements are as follows: 1, good health, can not have infectious diseases or cardiovascular disease; 2, strong psychological tolerance (no bloodsickness) 3, the process of delivery may be a variety of emergencies, accompanied by the birth of the person to remain calm, encourage the pregnant mother, can not be overly anxious or even affect the pregnant mother’s mood and the doctor’s operation Finally, I also want to talk to pregnant mothers Finally, I would also like to talk to the pregnant mother about the embarrassment in the delivery room, after all, giving birth to a child is a very private thing: First, in the process of waiting for labor, the midwife or even the doctor may be many times for the pregnant mother to do a vaginal examination Vaginal inspection can be to understand the softness of the cervix, the length of the cervix, the position and dilatation, to determine the exact position of the fetus baby, and then determine the approximate time the baby can come out, and the process of labor and delivery of the need to intervene. For mothers who need to have a lateral cut, the midwife will shave the pubic hair around the site of the lateral cut before the cut is made. Urinary retention can be easily caused by mental tension, labor analgesia or malposition of the fetal head in the course of labor. For the smooth progress of labor, the medical staff will catheterize the pregnant mother in a timely manner after the discovery of urinary retention. Fourth, when the head of the baby passes through the birth canal, the rectum will be squeezed, and the stool in the intestinal cavity will be discharged before the baby is delivered. In fact, there is no need to be embarrassed about these, for doctors and midwives have seen too much. Fifth, male obstetricians. In the hospital where I work, male obstetricians account for about 1/4 of the ratio. For doctors, there is no gender, so there is no such thing as an expectant mother giving birth to a child and a male doctor trying to get into it. However, male doctors are more physically active than female doctors, making them better candidates for obstetrics! The labor and delivery room is the door of birth, the place where hope is welcomed. However, for the author and his buddies, obstetrics is a very hard job, regardless of the time of day or night. Every time I was so tired that I thought of giving up, but one of the reasons I could keep going was that I could still hear the tender cries of a new baby after a hard day’s work.
