Whether Chen Pi tonifies or breaks Qi

Chenpi has the effect of regulating qi, neither tonifying nor breaking qi. Chenpi is the dried mature fruit peel of orange and its cultivated varieties in the family of Rutaceae. It is bitter, pungent and warm in nature, and belongs to the lung and spleen meridians. It has the efficacy of regulating qi and strengthening the spleen, drying dampness and resolving phlegm (removing phlegm in the body with drying dampness medication), and is used for epigastric (abdominal) distension and fullness, poor appetite and vomiting and diarrhea, and coughing with profuse phlegm. The adverse effects of this drug are not clear. This product is pungent, bitter and dry, and its warmth can help heat, so it should be used with caution for those with solid internal heat and red tongue with little fluid. Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae is a qi regulating herb, neither tonifying nor breaking qi. If there is a need for medication, it is recommended that it be used under the guidance of a professional physician, and not blindly self-medication.
