Effects and contraindications of Shimen acupoints

Shimen acupoint is used to treat gynecology, anterior yin disorders, spleen and stomach disorders; contraindications are broken skin, and pregnant women are not allowed to undergo treatment. Shimen point is an acupoint on the Ren vein, located in the lower abdomen, on the anterior midline, 2 inches below the navel. Shimen acupoint can treat gynecological disorders, such as metrorrhagia (excessive or spotting menstruation), amenorrhea, and leucorrhea; it can also treat disorders of the anterior yin, such as hernia, and dysuria (unruly urination). It can also treat some diseases of the spleen and stomach, such as diarrhea, abdominal pain and edema. The Shimen point can be used for both acupuncture and massage with moxibustion. However, because Shimen acupoints are located in the abdomen, pregnant women should not be randomly needled to avoid injury to the fetus, and those with skin ulcers should not be needled, moxibled, or massaged. Shimen acupoint acupuncture should be operated by a doctor, moxibustion and massage should be guided by a doctor.
