There is no specific time to live with liver abscess, but it does not affect the life expectancy after active treatment.
Typical symptoms of liver abscess are chills, high fever, pain in the liver area, etc. Ultrasound or abdominal CT examination is needed to assist in the diagnosis.
For amebic liver abscess, non-surgical treatment is preferred. Anti-amoebic drugs (e.g. chloroquine, metronidazole, etc.) can be given, and puncture drainage or surgical incision and drainage can be performed if necessary. Most heal well and are not life threatening. Bacterial liver abscess can be treated with antibiotics to fight infection (such as metronidazole), and if treatment is not effective, it can be drained by puncture or surgery.
Timely diagnosis and treatment of liver abscesses usually results in healing and does not affect productive life. If there is an underlying disease, the treatment effect is not good, which may cause life-threatening. Active cooperation with the doctor is required.
