The management of dry, flaky skin depends on the condition causing the symptom. If the condition is pruritus senileis or winter pruritus, it can be treated with emollients such as petroleum jelly, vitamin E cream or mineral oil; if it is caused by hypothyroidism, it can be treated with levothyroxine; if it is a vitamin A deficiency disease, it requires appropriate amounts of vitamin A supplementation.
If it is caused by a simple change in living conditions, such as indoor heating that warms up the air in winter, a humidifying tool can be used to increase humidity.
