A femoral neck fracture is a fracture between the head of the femur down to the base of the femoral neck. Neck of femur fracture is mostly in the elderly and often caused by a fall.
According to Garden’s typing, they are classified as type I incomplete embedded fracture, type II complete undisplaced fracture, type III complete fracture with partial displacement, and type IV fracture block completely displaced. Treatment options may include closed reduction, incisional reduction, internal fixation with closed reduction hollow screws, and artificial prosthesis replacement for femoral neck fractures. Recovery time varies for different degrees of injury and different treatment options.
Fracture healing time is divided into four stages: hematoma formation, fibrous scab formation, bony scab formation and scab remodeling or remodeling, femoral neck fracture needs 12~24 weeks of healing time. It is normal to have pain two months after surgery.
