Survival of stage III gliomas

Glioma stage III is usually glioma grade III. Usually, the 1-year and 5-year survival rates for glioma grade III are 30% and 13%, respectively, and the median survival period is around 3 to 4 years. Gliomas are tumors originating from the neuroepithelium and are classified into four grades, with grades one and two belonging to low-grade gliomas and grades three and four belonging to high-grade gliomas. Low-grade gliomas generally have a better prognosis after aggressive treatment, while high-grade gliomas have a worse prognosis due to the rapid progression of the tumor and the lack of effective treatment. Currently, the treatments for grade III glioma include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, electric field therapy, etc. The 1-year and 5-year survival rates after treatment are 30% and 13%, respectively, and the median survival period is around 3~4 years. Surgery for patients can rapidly remove most of the tumor cells to relieve patients’ symptoms; chemotherapy and targeted therapy can play an important role in the treatment of glioma, and for high-grade glioma, the application of temozolomide can significantly prolong the survival prognosis of patients. Patients with glioma grade III should go to the hospital in time, doctors will formulate individualized treatment plan according to the comprehensive situation of patients, patients should keep optimistic mentality and actively cooperate with doctors for treatment.
