How to heal a knee effusion on your own

Knee effusion is usually not self-healing and should be relieved by general treatment, medication, physical therapy and surgery depending on the cause. Common causes include osteoarthritis, septic knee joint effusion and gouty arthritis.

1. Osteoarthritis: obese people should reduce their weight; choose aerobic exercise with low impact; apply non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, to reduce symptoms. Physiotherapy such as baking and hot compresses can also be used to improve blood circulation and help fluid absorption. If the knee joint is severely damaged and conservative treatment is ineffective, surgery such as joint replacement is feasible.

2. Septic knee joint effusion: different antibiotic treatment programs, such as penicillin, ceftriaxone, etc., need to be selected in time, and supplemented with joint drainage or incision to remove pus, to promote rapid recovery.

3. Gouty arthritis: For example, when gouty arthritis has an acute attack, the joint pain, redness and swelling are more serious. Within 72 hours of the attack, targeted treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, uric acid-lowering drugs such as colchicine, and glucocorticosteroids such as budesonide not only reduces pain, but also promotes fluid absorption.

There are many other reasons that can lead to knee joint effusion, such as trauma, bursitis, etc. When there is a knee effusion, you should consult a doctor in time, improve the examination to find out the cause, standardize the treatment under the guidance of the doctor, and the medication needs to be rationally applied according to the doctor’s instructions.
