Experts say that psoriasis patients usually suffer from different degrees of discrimination, and their quality of life is worse than that of patients with other chronic diseases, requiring more understanding and care from society. Psoriasis is an immune-mediated chronic disease that causes excessive proliferation of skin cells, thickening of the surface, formation of red spots and scales, causing itching and bleeding. According to statistics, there are about 125 million people suffering from psoriasis worldwide, and there are about 6.5 million psoriasis patients in China, with a prevalence rate of 0.47%. Zhang Jianzhong, director of the Chinese Medical Association Branch of Dermatology and Venereology, recently introduced that psoriasis is not fatal and is not contagious, but its chronic and recurrent characteristics still bring great negative impact on the physiology and psychology of patients. Zhang Jianzhong said that there are still misunderstandings and prejudices about psoriasis in society, and psoriasis patients are discriminated against to varying degrees. Some people are worried about psoriasis infection and stay away from psoriasis patients, or show disgust. Many others believe that psoriasis is only a minor problem and does not deserve sympathy. All these views and behaviors are wrong. In recent years, the treatment of psoriasis has progressed very fast both internationally and in China, and the graded treatment effect of choosing different treatments according to different patients is very good, and many patients have recovered their health, regained their self-confidence and returned to society. Zheng Min, head of the Psoriasis Group of the Chinese Medical Association’s Dermatological and Venereal Diseases Branch, introduced that relevant studies have shown that the quality of life of psoriasis patients is worse than that of patients with other chronic diseases such as diabetes. Some psoriasis patients endure constant pain due to skin cracking and bleeding every day, and feel ashamed because of the scales that are constantly scattered on their clothes and around them, and suffer from many problems and restrictions in employment, choosing a spouse and other aspects of life. At the same time, misunderstanding and rejection from society can also cause patients to develop negative emotions such as sadness, despair and depression. In addition, there are many psoriasis patients who delay their condition due to their eagerness to seek medical treatment or insufficient understanding of formal treatment methods, and mishearing and misbelieving some small advertisements for psoriasis treatment scattered in the streets and alleys.
