Meniscal injuries can be determined by MRI. Depending on the degree of meniscal injury, there will be some variation in the presentation on MRI. In the case of a first-degree meniscus injury, which is relatively mild, the MRI shows a localized high signal in the form of dots or small patches. If it is a second degree injury, it is a strip of high signal. In third-degree meniscus injuries, there are large slices or long strips of high signal, which are connected to the joint edges. If the meniscus injury is relatively mild, it can be treated conservatively by minimizing walking, excessive knee flexion, and strenuous exercise. If the meniscal injury is second or even third degree, the conservative effect is usually poor and arthroscopic treatment can be considered.
