Preparation of patients with otitis media before surgery

  Otitis media surgery is a very delicate and delicate procedure. Since the middle ear is adjacent to several nerves and blood vessels and involves a variety of functions such as hearing, balance, facial and eye movements, and taste, the surgery carries a certain degree of risk. For patients who are about to undergo surgery for otitis media, patients and their families should prepare themselves psychologically, in terms of items and personnel, as early as possible: 1. Before surgery (1) Use internet resources and other resources to find and learn more about otitis media (the pathogenesis of otitis media, the mode and purpose of surgery, how the middle ear transmits sound and amplifies sound, etc.) and other information (other people’s experience of seeing the doctor, costs, information about the hospital doctor, etc.), so that they can fully understand (2) Surgery for otitis media in one ear at Southern Hospital: hospitalization time 4-7 days, hospitalization and surgery cost about 15-20,000.  2. The day before the surgery (1) At least one immediate family member of the patient or the first guardian of the child must come to the hospital to participate in the pre-operative conversation and sign the consent form for surgery and anesthesia; (2) The patient’s ear is shaved and prepared, followed by a full body bath and hair washing; (3) Patients undergoing surgery under general anesthesia must fast for at least 8 hours before surgery (note: no food and no boiled water). On the day of surgery (1) Patients with long hair should ask the nurse to tie their hair in braids to prevent post-operative infection caused by hair flowing into the operating area during surgery; never put your hair up or braid it centrally behind the healthy side of your head, as this may cause pressure on the healthy side of your head during surgery.  (2) Patients are ready to be transported to the operating room 1-2 hours before the procedure, so you have plenty of time to empty your bowels and remove your pullover underwear and bra.  (3) For patients undergoing local anesthesia, the transition from soft and semi-fluid food to regular food is gradual after surgery. You can wash yourself and do not need family members to accompany you after surgery; (4) For patients undergoing general anesthesia, you need to lie down and fast for 6 hours after surgery; 4. If hearing reconstruction surgery is performed, family members need to accompany you for 2-3 days after surgery; 5. If hearing reconstruction surgery is not performed, family members are not very necessary to accompany you after surgery and are at your discretion; Finish 6 hours after the general anesthesia surgery, patients start to try from drinking plain water, and as long as there is no nausea or vomiting, they can choose light and delicious soft food and gradually transition to normal diet. Never take ginseng and other supplements before and after surgery! Never over-eat high protein diet such as big fish and meat!
