The NT scan is an ultrasound scan which, like other ultrasound scans, requires the patient to lie flat on the examining table, and requires a high degree of accuracy, as the sonographer uses a high-resolution ultrasound instrument to visualize the subcutaneous fluid at the back of the neck. The NT is the black area at the back of the baby’s neck, called the nuchal translucency, or NT value. Many pregnant women do not always happen to have their child in a side-lying position, and may need to go out for another walk or climb stairs, and continue with the NT scan at intervals when the child continues to lie well.
