When dry and cracked heels occur, the doctor will usually first conduct a physical examination and take a medical history to clarify the extent of the dryness of the patient’s skin. If a fungal infection is suspected, fungal microscopy with fungal culture and skin dryness testing may be required, followed by laboratory tests. If the patient is suspected of having diabetes, operations such as urine glucose determination, blood glucose determination and oral glucose tolerance test are also required.
