How is rheumatoid anemia treated?

Treatment of anemia in rheumatoid (RA): 1. Anti-rheumatoid drugs In the treatment of anemia in RA, the primary disease is treated, and the anemia can be corrected as the principle disease resolves. The first step is to use anti-rheumatoid drugs to minimize inflammation as much as possible, using methotrexate as the base drug in combination with other drugs and biologics. The use of infliximab (anti-TNF-a agent) and anakinra (IL-1 receptor antagonist) can lead to improvement of anemia in RA patients. 2. Iron supplementation Iron deficiency can occur along with chronic disease anemia. With the elevation of red blood cells, supplementing iron in adequate amounts is often a necessary supplement for erythropoietin therapy. 3.Erythropoietin therapy is effective in correcting anemia of chronic diseases. However, erythropoietin requires larger doses than those patients whose anemia is due to non-inflammatory causes (e.g., renal failure). One study noted that RA patients treated with erythropoietin experienced improvement in joint tenderness and swelling, and also had elevated Hct. Another reported that patients treated with erythropoietin had improved energy for life. Combined treatment with erythropoietin and intravenous administration of iron in RA patients with chronic disease anemia reduced disease activity, reduced fatigue and increased mobility and muscle strength. This approach can also be extended to children with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, improving quality of life and growth rate in children. The use of erythropoietin facilitates the preparation of autologous blood transfusion before total hip or knee arthroplasty in RA patients, reducing the need for blood transfusion when RA patients undergo elective arthroplasty. 4.Chinese patent medicine treatment You can choose such Chinese patent medicine as “Angelica Blood Tonic Pill”, “Pat Chun Granule”, “Recycle Blood Tablet”, etc. to benefit the qi and replenish the blood with the treatment, the effect is also good.
