Rheum palmatum

Rhubarb is a traditional Chinese medicine with the effects of diarrhea (promoting the expulsion of stagnation from the bowels) and purging heat and fire (removing heat and fire from the body), so it is suitable for people with constipation due to stagnation, epistaxis (vomiting of blood due to heat in the blood, nosebleeds), burns and stasis of blood and dysentery due to heat and dampness, and gonorrhea (increased frequency of urination, dribbling and painful urination). 1. Constipation with stagnation: rhubarb has strong diarrheal effect and can treat constipation with stagnation, which is characterized by difficulty in defecation and dryness of feces, as well as blood in stool. 2. Blood-heat epistaxis and burns: rhubarb is bitter, cold and subduing, which can cause the fire of upper inflammation to be drained down, so it can be used in treating blood-heat epistaxis, red eyes and sore throat, and also burns. 3. For those with evidence of stasis of blood: rhubarb is mainly used for sinking and entering the blood division (the deepest stage or disease position among the four periods of warm disease, namely Wei Qi and Ying Blood), and can activate blood circulation, expel blood stasis and pass through the meridians (removing stasis of blood and dredging the meridians), and can be used in treating symptoms of post-partum stasis and abdominal pain and stasis of blood and menstruation (menstruation stoppage caused by poor circulation of blood). 4. Damp-heat dysentery (dysentery caused by damp-heat evil) and gonorrhea: Rhubarb can be used to induce damp-heat dysentery and damp-heat gonorrhea, as it can induce damp-heat evils to go out by using medicines with laxative effect. Adverse effects of rhubarb can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness and other symptoms when overdosed. Note: It should not be used in non-substantial cases, and should be used with caution in people with weak spleen and stomach. If there is a need for medication, it is necessary to be guided by a doctor to identify the evidence, and should not be used blindly, so as not to cause adverse consequences.
