Are cephalosporins antibiotics?

Cephalosporins are antibiotics, belonging to the β-lactam class of antibiotics, and have very good bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects on a wide range of bacteria. Cephalosporins are currently categorized into one to four generations, each with a slightly different antibacterial spectrum. However, all cephalosporins are broad-spectrum antibacterial drugs and can be used in the treatment of systemic infections caused by a variety of sensitive bacteria. Mild infections can be treated with oral cephalosporins, while moderate to severe infections can be treated with intravenous cephalosporins. Most cephalosporins are safe, and pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as children and infants, can use cephalosporins for anti-infective treatment. However, the use of cephalosporins may lead to allergic reactions.
