It is well known that smoking can be harmful to the body, but it is the latest research that smoking during pregnancy can lead to a high incidence of type 2 diabetes in the next generation. The study on the relationship between smoking during pregnancy and diabetes in the next generation was conducted jointly by American and Dutch scientists. The results of the study showed that body mass index (BMI) over the course of a person’s life is highly correlated with the mother’s pregnancy, due to maternal smoking (including secondhand smoke) or paternal smoking. The conclusion that smoking during pregnancy is associated with a high prevalence of diabetes in the next generation is a warning to mothers-to-be: smoking is harmful, whether active or passive, and the longer you smoke, the more harmful it is to you and your offspring.
