Optimal time for zygomatic arch fracture surgery

The best time to operate on a fracture of the zygomatic arch that is very clearly dislocated will generally have to be determined by the degree of localized swelling and the presence or absence of other damage. If the fracture is not very swollen, the sooner surgery is performed, the better. Surgery is generally recommended 1-2 days after the injury, as the fracture is relatively easy to reset. However, if there is abnormal localized swelling in the zygomatic arch or if there is other damage to the cranium, it is usually necessary to wait until the localized swelling is slightly under control or has subsided before surgery can be performed. It is recommended that early application of mannitol or drugs to promote blood circulation and eliminate blood stasis should be given to promote the reduction of swelling, and it is recommended that surgery should be performed only after the swelling has subsided within 1-2 weeks.
