Pitavastatin does not reverse plaque but helps to slow the progression of atherosclerotic plaque and should be used under medical supervision.
Pitavastatin inhibits cholesterol production and also has the effect of lowering plasma triglycerides, both of which are risk factors for atherosclerosis. Thus, the use of pitavastatin helps to slow the progression of atherosclerotic plaques. Atherosclerosis is an irreversible process and pitavastatin does not reverse plaque.
Pitavastatin should not be used in patients with severe liver disease or biliary atresia, in pregnant and nursing women, or in combination with cyclosporine. Its use may cause serious adverse reactions such as abdominal pain, rash, tiredness, itching and even rhabdomyolysis and liver dysfunction.
Pitavastatin should be used under medical supervision.
