What causes gray nails

Gray nails, also known as onychomycosis, is a nail-damaging disease caused by fungal infections. Various causes cause dermatophytes to invade the nail plate and release a variety of enzymes that dissolve the nail plate, damaging it and thus causing the disease to develop. Wearing impermeable shoes and socks, nail trauma and previous ringworm or tinea pedis are all triggers of the disease.
1. Wearing impermeable shoes and socks: if the patient wears impermeable shoes and socks for a long time, it may lead to more sweating on the feet, causing the local skin to be more humid, which is easy to cause the proliferation of fungi, and at the same time, the local area is broken, which will lead to the emergence of tinea pedis.
2. Nail injury: if the patient’s nails are traumatized, or the nails have other related diseases, and do not get the corresponding treatment in time, the local secondary fungal infection will also suffer from onychomycosis.
3. Previously suffered from ringworm or tinea pedis: if the patient previously suffered from tinea pedis or tinea pedis, due to local scratching, can make the fungus infected nail plate and proliferation, which led to the patient to appear ringworm.
It is recommended that patients with onychomycosis go to regular hospitals in a timely manner and under the guidance of doctors for standardized treatment.
