The correct way to take the acupuncture point for the Gate of Life is to lie on the back or sit upright, first take the lumbar yangguan in the posterior midline about the same level as the iliac crest, and then feel upward in the lumbar yangguan to take the two spinous processes above the depression is the acupuncture point; or in the spinous processes opposite the umbilical cord hole at the lower edge.
Vital Gate is located in the spinal region, in the depression below the spinous process of the 2nd lumbar vertebra, on the posterior midline. It is used for treating strong pain in the lumbar spine, impotence and paralysis of the lower limbs (weakness, numbness and pain in the lower limbs), irregular menstruation, reddish-white leucorrhoea (abnormal leucorrhoea with blood or blood clots), dysmenorrhoea, dysmenorrhea, menstrual occlusion, infertility, ejaculation, impotence, infertility with coldness of the spermatozoa, frequent urination, coldness and pain in the lower abdomen, and diarrhea.
In modern times, it is often used to treat lumbar sprain, enuresis, leucorrhea, intra- and extra-uterine membrane infection, pelvic inflammation, spondylitis, nephritis, sciatica, lower limb paralysis, pediatric meningitis, etc.
