A specific type of frothy stool in clinical practice is steatorrhea, which is related to exocrine dysfunction of the pancreas. This type of stool is less common in clinical practice, but most often in patients with gastroenteritis, who also have some frothy stools. If it is only acute gastroenteritis, it can be treated by oral Chinese medicine Huang Lian Su or anti-diarrheal drugs and intestinal probiotics. If it is caused by an infectious bowel disease, oral antibiotics for the intestines are also needed; if it is an abnormal exocrine function of the pancreas, it is usually a chronic process with accompanying symptoms, and if this is the case it will be treated with pancreatic enzyme replacement.
