Adopted by the Seventeenth Session of the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People’s Congress on December 28, 1990, China formulated the Law on the Protection of Persons with Disabilities, which clearly states that the human dignity of persons with disabilities is protected by law, and that discrimination, insult, and infringement of the legitimate rights and interests of persons with disabilities are prohibited. Therefore, schizophrenic patients are subject to legal protection as a category of persons with disabilities. However, due to various factors, schizophrenic patients are often discriminated against from all aspects of society. Therefore, we recommend that patients and their families pay attention to the following aspects: ① Be fully prepared for various discrimination phenomena. We cannot change society, so we can only adjust our mindset to accommodate others. For example, once diagnosed with schizophrenia, it is important to treat it as early as possible to promote its recovery, including the recovery of the disease and the recovery of social functions. Patients who have regained their normal state and are well adjusted socially will have the ability to resist adverse stimuli from all sides and have self-confidence. About half of the patients with schizophrenia can achieve this state with systematic treatment. ② Find your proper place in life and work, do not be blindly optimistic, and do not give up on yourself; it is often said that there is no difference between high and low work, so even if you are adjusted to a new job after illness, you should adjust your mind and adapt to your new life. ③ Take the initiative to care and help others, and engage in work that you can do. Prove your value with actions to eliminate discrimination from others; whether people get along well with each other depends on the joint efforts of both parties, so give love in exchange for others’ love as much as possible so that people can achieve their respective goals in a warm atmosphere of active care and helping others. If you are troubled and cannot resolve the problem on your own, please talk to your family or seek medical advice.
