Possible causes of death of cholangiocellular carcinoma patients include multiple organ failure, malignant disease, brain metastasis, serious infection, intra-abdominal hemorrhage and so on.
1. Multiple organ function failure: patients with advanced cholangiocellular carcinoma can have multiple organ metastases that seriously affect organ function, especially easy to metastasize to liver. When the metastatic foci seriously affect liver function, patients may die of severe liver failure.
2. Malignant stroma: malignant stroma means that patients with advanced malignant tumors are in the stage of severe malnutrition and extreme wasting, which is the result of massive proliferation of tumor cells and plundering of large amount of nutrients and energy.
3. Brain metastasis: brain metastasis is an important factor leading to death in cholangiocarcinoma patients. The metastatic foci keep on enlarging, which can squeeze normal brain tissues and lead to neurological dysfunction. If the tumor grows further, it can cause the intracranial pressure to rise, which will lead to brain hernia and death.
4. Serious infection: patients with cholangiocellular carcinoma are very easy to be infected in the late stage due to low immune function, especially patients with intra-abdominal implantation metastasis are more prone to intra-abdominal infection.
