What does adrenal adenoma NSE mean

NSE is the English abbreviation for neuron-specific enolase, an acidic protease specific to neurons and neuroendocrine cells, and a specific marker for neuroendocrine tumors. And it is not the main test for adrenal adenomas. Neuron-specific enolase can be elevated in the serum of patients with small cell lung cancer, pheochromocytoma, pancreatic islet cell tumor, medullary thyroid carcinoma, etc. It can be used as a screening test for the above tumors. It is also used in the differential diagnosis of neuroblastoma and nephroblastoma, where neuron-specific enolase is abnormally elevated, and nephroblastoma, where the elevation is insignificant. In contrast, adrenal adenomas require endocrine tests such as norepinephrine, aldosterone, angiotensin, and cortisol levels. Both adrenal adenoma and neuron-specific enolase abnormally elevated need to be taken seriously, and actively go to the hospital for examination and targeted treatment.
