Gallbladder removal has essentially no effect on a patient’s life expectancy.
The function of the gallbladder is mainly to store and concentrate bile. The causes of gallbladder removal are mainly gallbladder polyps, gallbladder stones, acute and chronic cholecystitis, etc., and the vast majority of them are benign; the incidence rate of gallbladder cancer in China accounts for about 0.4~3.8% of the biliary tract diseases, of which even fewer can be gallbladder removal. Therefore, the impact of gallbladder removal on life expectancy is limited.
The impact of gallbladder removal on human body is mainly the digestion of fat. Eating a lot of greasy food after gallbladder removal is easy to cause diarrhea, steatorrhea and other indigestion. One should pay attention to diet, maintain low fat, low cholesterol, high protein dietary structure, avoid fried food, fatty meat, and abstain from alcohol.
The incidence rate of gallbladder cancer is not high, but most of them have poor prognosis, 5-year survival rate after surgery is not more than 5%, and 80% of them have survival period less than 1 year. Those with advanced stage or metastasis that do not have surgical indications are mostly treated conservatively.
When abnormal symptoms of gallbladder are found, it is necessary to seek medical treatment in time and standardize the treatment, so as to avoid serious complications that may affect the quality of life.
