What are the types of tongue cancer pathology included

Pathologic types of tongue cancer include squamous cell carcinoma, glandular epithelial carcinoma, lymphoepithelial carcinoma, and undifferentiated carcinoma. Tongue cancer belongs to the most common oral cancer, more than 85% of tongue cancer occurs in the tongue body and in the lateral margin of the middle 1/3 of the tongue, and most of the pathologic types are squamous cell carcinoma. The pathologic types of glandular epithelial carcinoma, lymphoepithelial carcinoma, and undifferentiated carcinoma are less common. In early stage, patients may have symptoms such as ulcers and tongue pain, which are manifested as thickening of mucosal tissues, white spots or small hard nodules on the lateral margin of the tongue. When the ulcers are infected secondary to infection, patients may have symptoms such as salivation, halitosis, difficulty in chewing, and dysfunction of speech. If the tumor invades the deep muscles of tongue, patients may have symptoms such as limited tongue movement and difficulty in chewing. Tongue cancer is mainly treated by surgery, and radiotherapy can also be used to slow down the progress of the disease.
