The differences between back pain caused by cancer and ordinary pain are mainly: long duration, the special nature of cancer pain, the presence of accompanying symptoms, and the difficulty of treatment. 1. Long duration. Cancer-induced back pain often persists once it appears, and the pain can be gradually aggravated with the prolongation of time. 2. Special nature of cancer pain. Cancer-induced back pain may present intermittently with bursts of aggravation. Most of the flare-ups occur at night. The nature of cancer pain is not like ordinary pain with single nature and location, but may have various forms of manifestation, such as dull pain, hidden pain, distending pain, and unnamable severe pain. 3. Accompanying symptoms. Cancer-induced back pain often occurs jointly or successively with other physical symptoms caused by cancer. For example, lumps and ulcers in the lesion or symptoms such as abnormal blood pressure, weight loss and increased sweating. 4. Difficulty in treatment. At present, cancer-induced back pain is mainly relieved by medication. Overall, the treatment is difficult. Generally, the order of non-opioid analgesics, weak opioid analgesics, strong opioid analgesics gradually change the pain medication plan. Some patients are unable to relieve their pain even with pain medication and need to control the lesion to achieve symptom control.
