If the 4D ultrasound shows a strong spot in the fetal heart, there are usually two possibilities: physiological phenomenon and pathological phenomenon. If it is physiological phenomenon, it is normal through the fetal heart ultrasound examination as well as disease screening. This indicates that the fetal heart is not mature and the bright spot will gradually disappear as the fetus grows. Alternatively, it may appear only as a bright spot and requires no special treatment. If it is pathologic, then it is usually accompanied by chromosomal screening abnormalities, such as high risk of Down’s syndrome, cardiac malformations, and so on. In this case, further prenatal diagnosis such as amniocentesis or cordocentesis is required, and the pregnancy should be terminated as soon as possible if the diagnosis establishes a lethal abnormality. Therefore, if the 4D ultrasound shows a strong light spot in the fetal heart, this should be determined in conjunction with other tests. In the unfortunate event that the child is diagnosed with a lethal abnormality, the pregnancy should be terminated in accordance with the doctor’s recommendation.
