How serious is the aftermath of a spinal cord injury

Spinal cord injury may cause sequelae such as quadriplegia, incontinence, sensory impairment, increased muscle tone, hyperreflexia, muscular wasting atrophy, joint contracture, deformity, etc., which need to be judged according to the degree of the patient’s spinal cord injury and the stage of the spinal cord injury.
In clinical treatment, if the spinal cord above the cervical expansion is injured, it will often lead to quadriplegia, incontinence, loss of sensation and other sequelae; if the spinal cord is injured below the cervical expansion, it will usually involve both lower limbs, with sequelae such as increased muscle tone, muscular wasting atrophy, arthritic contracture and deformity.
If the spinal cord injury is only very mild, the patient will only experience slight numbness of the skin of the lower limbs, and the numbness will be reduced and disappear after active treatment. However, if the spinal cord injury is more serious, it may cause sensory disorder, motor disorder, autonomic dysfunction and other sequelae, or even complete paralysis.
The sequelae caused by untimely or improper treatment of the injury are more serious, and even lead to the patient’s life can not take care of themselves, but if the patient through timely treatment, active cooperation, and do a good job in life conditioning and recovery exercises, with the improvement of the condition, some of the symptoms can be gradually relieved and subside.
