The recovery period for stoma surgery is about one week. Ostomy is more common after resection of low rectal tumors, prophylactic stoma of terminal ileum or prophylactic stoma of transverse colon, or even sigmoid stoma of Hhartmann’s surgery for tumors, so the main recovery during ostomy is not in the stoma itself, but in the abdominal cavity. After surgery there is no major bleeding within the abdominal cavity as well as residual infection, and if there is an anastomosis, it is important to make sure that the anastomosis within the abdominal cavity is completely healed and that there is no anastomotic fistula or anastomotic ischemia. The stoma may also be separated, retracted, or infected, and regular dressing changes are sufficient.
