Are vocal cord nodules serious?

Vocal nodules are usually not a serious condition, but cause discomfort such as hoarseness and vocal effort. The severity of the condition should be determined after examination by a specialist, taking into account the patient’s symptoms. Vocal fold nodules are a special type of chronic laryngitis, which is caused by excessive use of the voice, frequent contact of the two vocal folds together, and in the position where friction is more serious, the epithelium on the inner edge of the vocal folds slowly proliferates to form a small bulge; it is mostly caused by the loss of respiratory support for the voice, tightening of the larynx, which lifts up the larynx, or squeezing the root of the tongue in order to make the larynx fall. Vocal cord nodules often manifest in the early stages of development as a hoarse, tired, dry, low voice, speaking voice is more difficult to hear than usual, interruption of pronunciation when speaking, resulting in involuntary clearing of the voice before speaking, and in severe cases, possible loss of voice. After diagnosis of vocal cord nodules, you must pay attention to daily care, healthy use of voice, let the vocal cords have more rest, drink small amounts of water, eat a light diet, and prohibit the use of spicy and irritating foods; if you are a child, you may be able to recover from the condition by puberty; if you are an adult, you can take conservative treatment or surgery to remove the lumps and improve the above mentioned discomfort symptoms.
