How contagious is cholera?

Cholera is a category A infectious disease and is highly contagious. However, cholera is now under effective control in China, and no large-scale outbreaks or epidemics have occurred in recent years. According to the law on the prevention and control of infectious diseases in China, infectious diseases are categorized into Category A, B and C according to their outbreaks, epidemics and degree of harm, and there are only 2 infectious diseases of Category A in China, namely, plague and cholera. Cholera is an intestinal infectious disease caused by ingesting food or water contaminated with Vibrio cholerae, and cholera patients and Vibrio cholerae infected people are the main sources of infection. Cholera can be spread through contaminated water and food, and can also be spread by flies, daily contact, and contaminated fish and other aquatic products. The population is generally susceptible to Vibrio cholerae and infection may result in symptoms such as vomiting, watery diarrhea, poor skin elasticity, and sunken eye sockets. Prompt medical attention is recommended in case of vomiting, diarrhea and other discomforts.
