What does traumatic stress mean?

Traumatic stress reaction refers to post-traumatic stress disorder, which is a delayed onset and long-term persistent psychiatric disorder due to an unusually threatening and catastrophic psychological trauma. Patients often carry out this repetitive experience in a very clear and extremely distressing manner, including recurrent re-experiencing of traumatic events consisting of delusions and hallucinations, and in some cases, a persistent active avoidance of trauma-related things, as well as negative cognitive and mental experiences.
