What is a positive anti-histone antibody?

Positive anti-histone antibodies suggest that the patient may have diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis.
Histones are basic proteins in the body and are the main protein component of chromatin. Anti-histone antibody is a type of autoantibody, which can be seen in a variety of connective tissue diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, drug-induced lupus, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, primary biliary cirrhosis, and systemic sclerosis.
In addition to connective tissue diseases, some infectious diseases, renal diseases and neurological diseases are also seen to be positive for anti-histone antibodies, such as HIV infection, primary glomerulonephritis, spontaneous nephrotic syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease and so on.
Antihistone antibody-positive patients can go to the rheumatology and immunology departments of regular hospitals for detailed consultation.
