When to discharge from the hospital for tuberculous pleurisy depends on the severity of the disease at the time of admission and the effectiveness of treatment during hospitalization, rather than a fixed number of days.
One of the treatments for tuberculous pleurisy is fluid aspiration. When withdrawing pleural fluid, it cannot be too fast and too much, otherwise it will easily cause pulmonary edema, pleural reaction and other adverse consequences, so if the patient’s condition is serious at the time of admission and there is a large amount of pleural fluid, it is necessary to withdraw the fluid several times for evaluation, and if it is not withdrawn in a timely manner, it may also be pleural adhesion, so the hospitalization time will be lengthened correspondingly as a result.
The second part of the treatment of tuberculous pleurisy is anti-tuberculous treatment. If the patient is admitted with multiple relapses, this may lead to resistance to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, thus requiring the selection of sensitive medications and a prolonged hospital stay.
Although the general hospitalization time for tuberculous pleurisy is 1-3 weeks, the hospitalization time needs to be analyzed patient by patient and cannot be generalized.
