Breastfeeding time and amount for mixed feeding of newborns

Mixed feeding of newborns follows the principle of breastfeeding on demand, the exact timing and amount of which can be based on days 1-3, 4-14 and 15-28 of birth. Newborns aged 1-3 days need to be nursed on demand for about 10-15 minutes at 15-70 ml per feeding, depending on individual differences. Newborns aged 4-14 days can be fed every 3 hours or so, again following the principle of breastfeeding on demand, for about 15-20 minutes at a time, with 30-90 ml per feeding. Newborns aged 15-30 days can breastfeed every 3 hours or so, for about 15-20 minutes at a time, with 70-100 ml of milk per feeding. The time and amount of milk a newborn takes every day affects the baby’s health status. The exact amount needs to be based on individual differences and the principle of breastfeeding on demand needs to be followed. If your baby’s daily milk intake varies too much from the normal range, then you need to consult your doctor and make appropriate treatment.
