Take a detailed medical history, including fever triggers, season, fever type, mode of temperature rise and fall, and accompanying symptoms.
Do a thorough physical examination, including: general nutritional status, presence of enlarged lymph nodes, head and neck condition, heart condition, lung examination, abdominal examination, and examination of the limbs and nervous system.
There are many causes of fever and targeted tests should be done depending on the cause, including routine blood, urine and stool tests; blood smear tests, chest fluoroscopy or chest x-ray.
