Patients with unstable fevers should first have their vital signs stabilised before the cause of the fever is diagnosed and treated. Most stable febrile patients require a complete history, physical examination, necessary laboratory tests and ancillary imaging tests.
The initial determination of infectious or non-infectious fever is made.
For fevers caused by infectious factors, improve the retention of pathogenic studies and give symptomatic supportive treatment while controlling the primary disease.
For fever caused by non-infectious diseases, aggressive control of the primary disease is required.
For fever of unknown origin, a systematic and comprehensive examination is performed and empirical symptomatic treatment is given after excluding common infectious diseases.
