Can lungs be replaced in advanced stage of lung cancer?

Most patients with advanced lung cancer have metastases of different degrees and different locations, so lung replacement is not recommended in general. Even if patients with metastasis have a new lung, there are still cancer cells in the blood, especially in patients with lung replacement, in order to reduce rejection, some immunity suppressing drugs have to be used, and after the immunity is suppressed, the cancer cells remaining in the blood will continue to take root like seeds. Therefore, in general, patients with metastasis cannot be cured even if their lungs are replaced. The main treatment for advanced lung cancer is conservative treatment, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, interventional therapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, etc., which can improve the quality of survival and prolong the life of patients. Patients with advanced lung cancer should preferably be hospitalized, and doctors will conduct a comprehensive examination and evaluation of the patient’s physical status to choose the appropriate treatment plan. Overall, there is no need to replace lungs for patients with advanced lung cancer.
