Care of hemodialysis catheters

The catheters for hemodialysis are divided into long-term catheters and temporary catheters, and according to the part of the catheter, they can be divided into catheters in the neck and catheters in the legs. The most common problem of hemodialysis catheter is infection, so therefore in the care: 1, can’t touch the outer end of the catheter with your own hands. 2, when washing hair or taking a bath, be careful to avoid water entering into the catheter or the outer end of the catheter. 3, if the catheter is in the leg, try to minimize the activity of the leg, to avoid the infection of the catheter bending. A common problem with hemodialysis catheters is breakage of the sutures. Avoid excessive pulling on the catheter. Catheters may be prone to forming blood clots, especially if they are temporary catheters. This is where it is important to note that temporary catheters should be replaced regularly, either with a long-term catheter or an action venous endovascular fistula. If the catheter does not pump well, it may be sealed with sodium heparin.
