What to do if your gums are inflamed and your teeth are loose

When the gums are inflamed and the tooth is loose, it is usually a case of periodontitis. When the tooth is loose to the third degree or more, the tooth needs to be extracted and has no value for retention. If the tooth is loose below the second degree, systemic periodontal treatment can be considered first, including supragingival scaling, subgingival scraping, root planing, and periodontal surgery. If, after periodontal systemic treatment, the tooth is still loose, a periodontal splint may be considered for fixation of the loose tooth. After the tooth has been fixed with a periodontal splint, the looseness will usually be relieved. After removal of the periodontal splint after one or two months, most of the loosening of the teeth can be significantly relieved, but regular check-ups and treatments are still required.
