Cerebral palsy (CP) is a disabling disease that is characterized by motor dysfunction. It is often associated with varying degrees of intellectual disability, speech dysfunction, epilepsy, and visual, auditory, behavioral and perceptual abnormalities. Seventy to eighty percent of children with cerebral palsy have varying degrees of mental retardation. The IQ level of the child directly affects the prognosis of the child. I have encountered children with different degrees of mental retardation in my work. The rehabilitation of these children is more difficult than that of children with good intelligence. Most of the children do not understand or do not understand what the therapist is saying and thus cannot successfully complete a rehabilitation program. This directly affects the outcome of the child’s rehabilitation. Because rehabilitation is a long process, we have enough time to understand what the child is doing, what he or she does not like to do, and what he or she is interested in. For example, one of my children, who is 5 years old, cannot speak, is mentally challenged, and is very active, cannot stop for a moment, has internal rotation of the right lower limb, and has a pointed foot. At the beginning of the rehabilitation training, he was basically walking in the treatment room and going up and down the stairs. In this case, he could not do the training at all. Later on, I found out that he liked going up and down stairs and holding a ball. I used the activity of going up and down stairs to add some training contents, such as jumping on one foot and standing on one leg. Children find it interesting, he likes to do this activity, and slowly become a habit. Then add some ball tossing and hurdling activities to increase the variety and fun of training. This not only has the effect of training and educational, for the growth of children with intellectual disabilities is also helpful. So no matter what type of child they are, they all have something inherent in themselves that needs to be discovered by the therapist in order to do a good job of rehabilitation.
