Difference between Zhen Wu Tang and Ling Gui Jiu Gan Tang

The difference between Zhen Wu Tang and Ling Gui Jiu Gan Tang is the different composition of the drugs and the different functions and treatments. For example, Zhen Wu Tang has the efficacy of warming yang and inducing diuresis (supplementing yang qi in the body to promote the circulation of water); Ling Gui Jiu Gan Tang has the efficacy of warming yang and inducing diuresis (warming yang qi in the body to promote the metabolism of water), and strengthening the spleen and inducing diuresis. 1. Zhen Wu Tang is composed of Poria, Paeoniae Alba, Atractylodes Macrocephala, Ginger and Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori. Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang is composed of Poria, Gui Zhi, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae. 2. Zhenwu Tang is used to treat Yang deficiency and water flooding (deficiency of Yang qi causing obstruction to the operation of water and liquid in the body), with symptoms such as fear of cold, limb syncope, dysuria, palpitation and restlessness under the heart, dizziness, unsteadiness, heavy and painful limbs, edema, worse below the waist; or abdominal pain, diarrhea; or coughing and vomiting. The tongue is pale and fat, with teeth marks on the sides, white and smooth tongue coating, and a sunken and thin pulse. Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang is used to treat phlegm (a pathological product of impaired metabolism of water and fluid) in deficiency of middle yang, which is characterized by fullness in the chest and hypochondrium (a collective term for the thorax and ribcage), dizziness and palpitation (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), shortness of breath and coughing, with a white slippery tongue coating and slippery stringy pulse or a heavy and tight pulse. Both Zhen Wu Tang and Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang belong to warming and transforming water-dampness agents, clinical treatment should be taken by a professional doctor to differentiate between spleen yang deficiency and kidney yang deficiency, and to combine the clinical symptoms with the prescription and treatment, so as to avoid any misunderstanding of the condition.
