Discharge instruction for intertrochanteric fracture of the femur

Femoral intertrochanteric fracture now generally encourages patients to be discharged early, and the discharge instruction mainly focuses on the use of assistive devices, including walkers and crutches, and crutches are divided into single and double crutches. If the fracture is complex, the patient will be instructed to perform the appropriate functional exercises in bed after discharge without weight-bearing. After six weeks, the patient is instructed to use double crutches or single crutches for functional exercises. Generally, after 12 weeks postoperatively, the patient is instructed to abandon the crutches for functional exercises with full weight-bearing after bony healing is achieved.
