What causes testicular torsion?

The cause of testicular torsion is unknown, and may be related to developmental abnormalities, vagus nerve excitation, local trauma, and strenuous exercise.
1. Abnormal development of testis, epididymis, spermatic cord and sheath may cause abnormal morphology and position of these tissues, and increase the mobility, which may increase the risk of testicular torsion.
2. Vagus nerve excitation and frequent testicular activity increase the risk of torsion, mostly at night.
3. Strenuous exercise, local trauma such as trauma to the vulva, causing spasm of the levator muscle may cause testicular hypermobility and torsion.
Testicular torsion mostly occurs in adolescents, when testicular torsion occurs, it is necessary to seek medical treatment immediately and promptly, so as to avoid ischemia and necrosis of the testicle caused by too long a period of time.
