Muscle soreness can be a concomitant symptom of fever. A person with novel coronavirus infection has fever and may be accompanied by muscle soreness and malaise. However, muscle soreness alone without malaise, fever, upper respiratory symptoms or gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea is not a definitive diagnosis of novel coronavirus infection. Muscle soreness is most often seen in soft tissue muscle injuries, strains or may be caused by prolonged exertion or heavy physical activity. If a patient has fever with muscle aches and upper respiratory symptoms such as cough and sore throat, the diagnosis of novel coronavirus infection should be confirmed by a clear epidemiological history and laboratory tests that are also consistent with novel coronavirus infection.
